Hello! I’m Shawn Featherstone, Creative Director of Petal Forest, a Los Angeles-based floral design studio. My earliest memories of floral joy involved helping my mother water roses in our garden. Part dancing barefoot in the summer grass, part tending the garden, all of it made me so very happy.
The first chapter of my professional life had little to do with flowers. Following business school, I hung my shingle and began working as an independent I.T. consultant. A decade in, I landed a job with a major entertainment studio, managing databases used to track animation projects. While working at the studio, I witnessed the most beautiful floral arrangements being delivered to executives. Undeniably, each arrangement whispered my name.
In 2005, the studio I worked for needed to downsize and went through several rounds of layoffs. Eventually my name appeared on the list of layoffs, so I decided to lean into my passion. And that is how Petal Forest began. My philosophy is if you lean forward, life will always meet you halfway. Supporting this theory, a few generous and talented floral designers guided me through the process of launching a floral design business.
Every successful small business makes and keeps a promise. The promise I make to our clients is to deliver the freshest blooms, exceptional designs, and excellent customer service. A respected colleague and friend dubbed my superpower “the curation of blooms.” For me, that’s a badge of honor. While I don’t create the individual flowers, I do decide which blooms have the freshness, grace and beauty to be a part of the arrangements we create for our clients.
